Sedation dentistry is a wonderful way to help patients who have a fear of getting dental treatment. It can reduce or eliminate the pain associated with dental procedures. You will be relaxed and comfortable during your entire treatment. You will undergo everything from a simple cleaning to extensive dental treatment. Dr. Sandhu is licensed specially trained and equipped to offers two types of sedation:
You breathe nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) — combined with oxygen through a mask that’s placed over your nose. The gas helps you relax. Your dentist can control the amount of sedation you receive, and the gas tends to wear off quickly. This is the only form of sedation where you may be able to drive yourself home after the procedure.
Oral Conscious Sedation
The patient will take a prescribed pill orally before coming to our office. Patient will stay conscious and verbally responsive while under treatment but will have little memory of the procedure once complete, the amnesia effect. The drugs used do not have any side effects.
Other pleasant effects are
- It enhances effectiveness of anesthetic
- It decreases gagging
- Patients do not feel as much joint and muscle soreness
- Allows more treatment in shorter time: hence less dental visits
